Preview: ANC 5D November 2020 Meeting

There is an Advisory Neighborhood Commission meeting tonight on Zoom, starting at 7pm. On the website, find the calendar on the sidebar and click on "ANC 5D Public Meeting" for the Zoom link. Here is the agenda, which is subject to change. These are some bullet point notes for ahead of the meeting, but they may not be correct after the meeting itself, which I’ll recap tomorrow.

  • We have a new slate of commissioners who were just elected. The only returning commissioners will be Sydelle Moore and Bernice Blacknell. These are the last two meetings for the current group, so expect to see some attempts at wrapping up outstanding business and some reluctance to take on anything that would stretch into next year.

  • The consent calendar, for issues reviewed in advance and voted on all at once, is fairly light this month, with three items in Ivy City. The first is a resolution asking for lighting, a police camera and local parking on the 1700 block of Corcoran Street, south of Mt Olivet Road and west of West Virginia Avenue. Brooklyn-based Other Half Brewing, which opened in October, seeks approval for curbside pickup on Fenwick Street. And Bo & Ivy, the distillers taking over the Jos. A. Magnus space, are asking for approval for a stipulated liquor license.

  • Commissioner Linehan has brought up and passed several resolutions focused on turning the empty site of the former Crummel School into a park and community center. I suspect that "Resolution: Crummell Recreation," is one more attempt at making progress on this front before Ryan Linehan, whose SMD includes the site and has been focused on this throughout his term, leaves the ANC next year.

  • The agenda also lists individuals for nomination to the Transit and Grant Committees. As far I as know these committees have not met yet, so these new members will get the committees ready to make recommendations to the ANC next session.

  • It's not on the agenda, but there might be a follow up about 1638 Trinidad Avenue or either of the grants that were conditionally approved last month.

  • Finally, will we see any representative from the Mayor, Ward 5 Councilmember McDuffie or MPD? Their absences last month were notable.
