Drive-Thru Trick-or-Treating on Halloween
Tonisha Wallace, who lives on Levis Street and identifies as Black, is one of the organizers. She said that neighbors just wanted to give kids a way to “safely socially distance trick-or-treat.” Wallace has two daughters, ages three and seven, and wanted to do something different because of Covid. “We still want kids to have fun,” she says.
Wallace invites neighbors to help in the volunteer effort. Neighbors can donate candy, pretzel bags or fruit and drop it off at any time at 1342 Levis Street. Also, help is needed the day before, at 11am on Friday, the 30th, to clean up the alley, which Wallace says is already paved, pretty clean and well lit at night. Volunteers are also needed before the event at 4pm on Saturday to decorate and get everything ready. There will be gloves for volunteers, but neighbors are asked to bring their own masks and be safe.
Whatever you do, please be patient and safe. I made a cardboard candy slide for my porch to drop candy to trick-or-treaters, over on Morse. Happy Halloween!
