2020 election: How to vote in Trinidad

I’m still doing interviews and writing up posts with some of the ANC candidates, but since ballots have been mailed out and there are a lot of options for voting I thought it might be useful to list them here. If you need a guide to the nearly two-dozen at-large candidates, DCist has a good round-up. Voters who are over 65 or have a disability will be able to vote curbside.

Mail ballots: All registered voters in D.C. are being mailed a ballot in early October. Check if you’re registered here. If you don’t receive a ballot by October 21 (and you should) you will have to vote in person. You can drop your ballot in a blue post office box — there are a few along Trinidad Ave. You can also put it in a special ballot drop box. Trinidad has one of these in front of Wheatley and the Joseph Cole Recreation Center on Neal Street (above photo), and it is unlocked and available for drop off from now until 8:00pm on Election Day, November 3. There is also one nearby at Union Market and another at Rosedale Library.

Voting early: You can also vote before Election Day at any of 32 election sites (map) between Tuesday, October 27 and Election Day, November 3. Within Trinidad, you can vote at Trinidad Recreation Center on Childress Street from 8:30am to 7:00pm. If you aren’t registered to vote, you can register in person with a valid D.C. ID or proof of residence.

Vote on Election Day: Finally, you can vote like you would in every other election. You don’t have to vote at the place you’re normally supposed to, you can vote in any of the 95 centers that will be open throughout the city. In Trinidad we will have the Trinidad Rec Center and Joe Cole Rec Center, both open from 7:00am to 8:00pm. There’s also centers at Dock 5 at Union Market, J.O. Wilson Elementary, Miner Elementary and Sherwood Rec Center.
